Softball Recap: Blaine Comes Up Short

If Blaine was feeling good fresh off their 12-2 takedown of Duluth East last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bengals fell just short of the Centennial Cougars by a score of 6-5 on Monday. The Bengals haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Paige Dahlman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Emily Vogel was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Kayla Shaffer was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

Blaine now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Centennial, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Blaine will square off against rival Coon Rapids at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Centennial is set to face off against their familiar foe Elk River at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
