Preview: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Granite Bay Grizzlies
Monterey Trail is 0-3 against Granite Bay since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Both teams will round out the year against one another at 3:50 p.m. at. One thing working in Monterey Trail's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Monterey Trail scored the most points they've had all season to find success two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Christian Brothers with a sharp 93-67 win. Monterey Trail might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won five games by 21 points or more this season.
Monterey Trail's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Gibson Jr, who almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists. The match was Gibson Jr's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Damien Mcalister was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Granite Bay pushed their score all the way to 74 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were outmatched by Jesuit at home and fell 104-74. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on December 9th (61), Granite Bay still had to take the loss.
Monterey Trail's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.08 points. As for Granite Bay, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
Things could have been worse for Monterey Trail, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 76-57 loss to Granite Bay in their previous matchup back in December of 2016. Can Monterey Trail avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
