Soccer Game Preview: Lincoln vs. Robert C. Byrd

The Lincoln Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Robert C. Byrd Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lincoln's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Frankfort as they made off with a 10-0 win. Eryn Ashcraft was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Something new happened on Monday as Haleigh Hyre saw her first action of the season, playing 40 minutes against Frankfort. Hyre made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Meanwhile, Philip Barbour kept up with Robert C. Byrd until halftime on Tuesday, but afterwards: not so much. The Eagles blew past the Colts 4-0. The game was the first time Robert C. Byrd have beaten Philip Barbour on their pitch since August 31, 2017.

Robert C. Byrd pushed their record up to 8-4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three contests. As for Lincoln, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Lincoln took their win against Robert C. Byrd when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
