Basketball Recap: Cale Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brewer over New Hope

Brewer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Hope Indians. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Brewer lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Cale Smith, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 8.5 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jansen Brown, who posted 13 points.

Brewer's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for New Hope, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Looking ahead, Brewer will square off against Hatton at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for New Hope, they will take on Greensboro in a tournament on Monday.
