Basketball Preview: Swallows Charter Academy Spartans vs. Rocky Ford Meloneers
The Swallows Charter Academy Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Rocky Ford Meloneers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Swallows Charter Academy and seven for the Meloneers.
Swallows Charter Academy pushed their score all the way to 62 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-62 to Dolores Huerta Prep.
Despite their defeat, Swallows Charter Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Andrew Breedlove, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Breedlove has scored all season. Charles Perry was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Rocky Ford, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 64-46 loss to the Panthers on Friday. While losing is never fun, Rocky Ford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Panthers are ranked 116th).
Swallows Charter Academy dropped their record down to 2-12 with that loss, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Rocky Ford, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.
Swallows Charter Academy came up short against the Meloneers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 43-34. Can Swallows Charter Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
