Football Recap: Gateway Find Success + How To Watch

Gateway's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They snuck past the Franklin Regional Panthers with a 33-28 win. This was payback for the Gators, who suffered a 36-34 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gateway found their leader in freshman Mayson Mitchell, who threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 15.1 yards per attempt. Those 317 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Mitchell. Jayden Stammer also helped out as he racked up 109 receiving yards.

Despite the loss, Franklin Regional saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dominic Devola threw for 178 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 96 yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Gateway and bumps their season record up to 2-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-5 Franklin Regional and 1-3 Kiski Area. As for Franklin Regional, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Coming up, Gateway will host Armstrong at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Franklin Regional, they will face off against Kiski Area at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will be up against the Cavaliers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.75 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
