Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Holden Ford and Bobby Hawkins Jr Lead Roanoke Rapids to Victory + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Roanoke Rapids had no problem doing just that on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Nash Central Bulldogs 14-12. This was a revenge game for the Yellowjackets: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in October, they had to take a 47-21 defeat.

Roanoke Rapids was led to victory by Bobby Hawkins Jr and Holden Ford. Hawkins Jr gained 168 total yards and a touchdown, while Ford rushed for 13 yards and one touchdown. Hawkins Jr also rushed for 132 rushing yards, which is notable because the Yellowjackets are 2-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 1-7 otherwise.

Another reason for the win was Roanoke Rapids' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Takuan Harris and Semaj Pierce, who racked up all four sacks between them.

Although Nash Central took the loss, they still got scores from Taliek Morris and Tristian Whitley.

Roanoke Rapids' win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Nash Central, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-8.

Looking ahead, Roanoke Rapids will take on West Craven at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Yellowjackets surely won't give up without a fight. Nash Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
