The Wekiva Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Four Corners Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wekiva's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 11-0 margin over Circle Christian. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the match before.
Emil Flaquer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Flaquer was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Wekiva let Cody Bowen and Jaden Graham loose on the outfield. Bowen scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Graham went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brady Reinert, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Wekiva always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Circle Christian only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, in Thursday's Canine Competition, Four Corners prevailed. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Frostproof on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Coyotes.
Cameron Haigh was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Ronaldo Rivera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Four Corners pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Wekiva, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Wekiva came out on top in a nail-biter against Four Corners when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wekiva since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
