An exciting week of postseason high school basketball kicked off with another surprising result as Mount St. Joseph (Baltimore) defeated then No. 12 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) 76-63 in the MIAA Conference A title game.

In the WCAC title game on Monday night, No. 6 DeMatha defeated then No. 22 Paul VI 70-56. The Stags captured their 41st conference championship and their second in the past three seasons.

No. 15 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) tied the national record for consecutive state championships, winning their ninth consecutive state title on Friday night with a 65-37 victory over Desert Pines (Las Vegas).

The CIF Southern Section Open Division title game saw No. 16 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) capture their second consecutive CIF Southern Section crown, defeating Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 59-48.



Postseason action started up this week in Texas, as defending UIL 6A champions No. 21 Duncanville (Texas) and No.  No. 23 Lancaster advanced to round three of state tournament play, while 22 Westlake (Austin) suffered a season-ending upset second round loss against Warren (San Antonio) 61-59.

Saturday, state playoff action intensified as No. 2 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) knocked off defending state champions McEachern (Powder Springs) 82-76 in the GHSA Class AAAAAAA state semifinals and No. 3 Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.) extended their in-state win streak to 58 games with a 66-40 victory against Wade Hampton (Greenville) in the SCHSL Class 5A state semifinals.
