Softball Recap: Winthrop Takes a Loss

Gloucester hit Winthrop with a five-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings came up short against the Fishermen, falling 11-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fishermen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in April.

Lucy Boncore was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

Winthrop has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13-1 record this season. As for Gloucester, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-2.

As of now, neither Winthrop nor the Fishermen have any future games scheduled.
