Softball Game Preview: Benicia Panthers vs. Carondelet Cougars

The Benicia Panthers will face off against the Carondelet Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Benicia will be strutting in after a win while Carondelet will be coming in after a loss.

Benicia's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Acalanes with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Panthers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th.

Alana Robinson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Aryanna Banks-Lockhart was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ava Rojas was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Benicia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Carondelet didn't have quite enough to beat Vanden on Saturday and fell 7-5.

Carondelet also got a good showing from Elle Quinn, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Angela Gates was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Myleiana Lopez, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Benicia now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Carondelet, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
