Monona Grove was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Fort Atkinson on Thursday. The Silver Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Blackhawks. The Silver Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.

Brooklyn Vanden Branden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cathryn Zegadlo was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Payton Hanson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Monona Grove now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Fort Atkinson, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monona Grove will square off against Poynette at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fort Atkinson, they will face off against Cambridge at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
