Monona Grove was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Fort Atkinson on Thursday. The Silver Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Blackhawks. Brooklyn Vanden Branden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cathryn Zegadlo was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Payton Hanson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
