Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Adam Udell and Sam Clachko Lead Staples to Victory

Staples won the last time they faced Newtown and things went their way on Monday too. The Staples Wreckers were the clear victor by a 75-52 margin over the Newtown Nighthawks. The Wreckers pushed the score to 63-35 by the end of the third, a deficit the Nighthawks cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading Staples to victory were Sam Clachko and Adam Udell. Clachko went 9 of 17 on his way to 26 points and three steals, while Udell went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. Those five steals gave Udell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Corrigan, who posted eight points.

The victory made it two in a row for Staples and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Newtown, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Staples and Kennedy will round out the year against one another at at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newtown, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Northwestern Regional at 7:15 p.m.
