Softball Game Preview: Leslie County Eagles vs. Whitley County Colonels

The Leslie County Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Whitley County Colonels at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Leslie County has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Whitley County will arrive with three straight wins.

Leslie County lost 10-4 to Hazard on Wednesday.

Royce Osborne was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Lauren Osborne also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Meanwhile, Whitley County got the win against Lynn Camp on Friday by a conclusive 18-8.

Cami Price was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Payton Hurst, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Whitley County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.8.

Whitley County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-10. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14 runs. As for Leslie County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Everything went Leslie County's way against Whitley County in their previous matchup back in March of 2017, as Leslie County made off with an 11-0 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Colonels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
