Basketball Recap: Altus Comes Up Short

Altus and Newcastle squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Altus had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Racers 73-30. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Racers are ranked sixth).

It was another big night for Amara King, who went 8-for-10 en route to 22 points along with seven assists and three steals for Newcastle. Those seven assists gave King a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalani Kindred, who shot 71% from the field on her way to 12 points and four steals.

Altus' defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-18. As for Newcastle, the victory was the 21st in a row for them, bringing their record up to 25-2.

Altus didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-39 loss against Bishop McGuinness on the 5th. Newcastle has also already played their next matchup (against Carl Albert), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
