Vail Christian is 9-1 against Caprock Academy since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 10:00 a.m. Vail Christian will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Vail Christian made easy work of North Park and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-15, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Caprock Academy hadn't done well against West Grand recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mustangs, sneaking past 3-2.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (101-100) Caprock Academy actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-15, 17-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Caprock Academy found their leader in freshman Tiara Gonzalez Cardenas, who had seven assists and six digs.
Caprock Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in nine consecutive matchups.
Caprock Academy's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Vail Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.
Everything went Vail Christian's way against Caprock Academy when the teams last played back in September, as Vail Christian made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
