Preview: Swallows Charter Academy Spartans vs. Hoehne Farmers
Swallows Charter Academy has been on the road for three straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Hoehne Farmers at 4:30 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Swallows Charter Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 47-25 margin over Trinidad. That 47-25 margin sets a new team best for Swallows Charter Academy this season.
Swallows Charter Academy relied on the efforts of Andrew Breedlove, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, and Charles Perry, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Garrett Vinson, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hoehne didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Las Animas on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 57-53 victory. The victory was just what Hoehne needed coming off of a 54-28 loss in their prior matchup.
Hoehne can attribute much of their success to Nathan Zamora, who scored 16 points along with six assists and five steals. That's the first time this season that Zamora scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Terry, who scored nine points.
Swallows Charter Academy's victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6. As for Hoehne, they pushed their record up to 3-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Swallows Charter Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Hoehne, though, as they've been averaging only 31 rebounds per game. Given Swallows Charter Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Hoehne will need to find a way to close that gap.
Swallows Charter Academy was dealt a bruising 57-18 loss at the hands of Hoehne when the teams last played back in January. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Swallows Charter Academy was down 35-12.
