Matanzas won the last time they faced DeLand and things went their way on Monday too. Matanzas blew past DeLand 10-2. Considering the Pirates have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
ASHLEY SAMPSELLE was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, MCKENZIE MANHART was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. AVA HENIGE also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Matanzas' record is now 9-1. As for DeLand, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Matanzas will take on Flagler Palm Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for DeLand, they will venture away from home to square off against Seabreeze at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. DeLand will need to watch out since Seabreeze has now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
