Baseball Game Preview: Baker Gators vs. Northview Chiefs

Baker is 0-10 against Northview since March of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Gators will square off against the Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. Baker will be strutting in after a win while Northview will be coming in after a defeat.

Baker is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Paxton as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Baker let Rand Stokes and Brennen Ellis run wild. Stokes went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Ellis went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Baker is undefeated when Stokes posts two or more runs, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Mitchem, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Northview came up short against Pensacola Catholic on Thursday and fell 10-7. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Chiefs, who until this contest were averaging 3.38 runs allowed.

Northview saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jase Portwood, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Cole Davis was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Baker and bumps their season record up to 15-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Northview, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

Baker couldn't quite get it done against Northview in their previous matchup last Monday as they fell 11-6. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
