Basketball Game Preview: Pleasant Valley Vikings vs. Downey Knights

Pleasant Valley is 4-0 against Downey since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Pleasant Valley Vikings will jump right back in to play the Downey Knights at 10:30 a.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Pleasant Valley's tournament run continued when they took on Turlock on Friday. Pleasant Valley fell 53-45 to Turlock. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Pleasant Valley got top-tier performance from Keith Thompson, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points. With that strong performance, Thompson is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Sanchez, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against El Capitan, falling 60-36. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 965th, while the Gauchos are ranked 347th).

Pleasant Valley's record now sits at 4-7. As for Downey, their record now sits at 2-8.

Everything came up roses for Pleasant Valley against Downey when the teams last played back in December of 2018, as the squad secured an 83-51 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pleasant Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
