Basketball Recap: Cabell Midland Takes a Loss

Cabell Midland lost against South Charleston back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The contest between the Cabell Midland Knights and the South Charleston Black Eagles didn't end well, with the Cabell Midland Knights falling 59-44. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Black Eagles are ranked fourth).

Despite the loss, Cabell Midland saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ayden Spence posted seven points and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Spence. Aidan Ray was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

Cabell Midland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for South Charleston, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Cabell Midland will be playing in front of their home fans against Belfry at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Belfry's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 games. South Charleston has already played their next contest (against Riverside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
