Recap: Maclay Marauders vs. Fleming Island Golden Eagles
The Maclay Marauders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Fleming Island 56-50. While losing is never fun, Maclay can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while Fleming Island is ranked 198th).
When it comes to explaining why Maclay lost, one person who can't be blamed is Avery Coffin. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with three steals. Coffin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Lunt, who scored eight points.
Fleming Island found their leader in underclassman Carson Crawford, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. The game was Crawford's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Bryce Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Maclay bumped their record down to 2-6 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Fleming Island, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Maclay won't have much time to rest: their next match is against King's Ridge Christian on December 16th. Fleming Island will be home for the holidays to greet Auburndale at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
