Baseball Recap: Calexico Has No Trouble Against Central

Calexico barely beat Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs blew past the Spartans 8-2 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Antonio Gonzalez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Randy Baez, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Derek Carrillo also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Calexico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Calexico pushed their record up to 16-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Calexico will have a chance to go back-to-back against Central: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
