Baseball Game Preview: Colts Neck Cougars vs. Marlboro Mustangs

Colts Neck is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Saturday. They will host the Marlboro Mustangs. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Colts Neck fell victim to Steinert and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. The game marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Colts Neck got a good showing from Nick Hayden, who pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Colts Neck saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dan Annunziata, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Marlboro's offense. They fell 4-0 to Ranney on Thursday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with Ranney recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Colts Neck's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2. As for Marlboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Colts Neck skirted past Marlboro 4-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
