Basketball Game Preview: Hunter Wolverines vs. Corner Canyon Chargers

Hunter is 0-3 against Corner Canyon since December of 2020 but things could change on Wednesday. The Hunter Wolverines will take on the Corner Canyon Chargers in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant centers against one another: Grace Gallagher and Aubrey Mulitalo.

Hunter saw some tournament action on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 65-32 loss at the hands of Viewmont. The game marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mama Tuitupou-Kutu, who posted ten points along with eight boards and three blocks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in blocks. Skye Davidson was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Corner Canyon faced Wasatch in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Corner Canyon pulled ahead with a 55-54 photo finish over Wasatch. The win was nothing new for the Chargers as they're now sitting on four straight.

Corner Canyon's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Hunter, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Hunter ended up a good deal behind Corner Canyon in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, losing 60-42. Can Hunter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
