Basketball Recap: Erica Ponce's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Swallows Charter Academy over Las Animas

Swallows Charter Academy lost against Las Animas back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Swallows Charter Academy Spartans came up short against the Las Animas Trojans, falling 43-21. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-10.

Swallows Charter Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Erica Ponce, who posted seven points and six rebounds. Ponce has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Swallows Charter Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-6. As for Las Animas, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Swallows Charter Academy will head out on the road to challenge Manzanola at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Las Animas, they will square off against Evangel Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Las Animas' defense has only allowed 27.4 points per game this season, so Evangel Christian Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
