Football Recap: Noah Pavlicek's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Canon City over Pueblo East + How To Watch

Canon City dropped down to 4-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Pueblo East Eagles, falling 49-26. The matchup was a 20-20 toss-up at halftime, but the Tigers couldn't quite close it out.

Canon City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Pavlicek, who picked up 108 receiving yards and three TDs. Pavlicek also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending three passes. Another signal caller making a difference was Trey Schumacher, who threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

As for Pueblo East, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.1 points over those games.

It was another big night for Dolphka Lewis, who rushed for 263 yards and five scores while picking up 11.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 181 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Pueblo East's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. Xavian Khamphavong was Lewis' top target, picking up 67 receiving yards and one touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Canon City will take on rival Pueblo County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pueblo East is set to square off against their familiar foe Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 972 yards in their previous games.
