Baseball Recap: Rancho Bernardo's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Rancho Bernardo dropped their record down to 11-10 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the San Marcos Knights by a score of 4-2. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Brady Strachan made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Owen Glick, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for San Marcos, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On San Marcos' side, Carter Tsai tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Tsai has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, San Marcos let Evan Hall and Maddox Ponsford run wild. Hall went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Ponsford went 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Pittman, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Rancho Bernardo beat San Marcos by a score of 9-6 on Wednesday.
