Basketball Game Preview: South County Stallions vs. Fairfax Lions

The South County Stallions will face off against the Fairfax Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South County is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

If South County beats Fairfax with 79 points on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. South County skirted past West Potomac 79-76. Given the Stallions' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Wolverines are ranked 247th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Fairfax made off with a 46-45 victory over Christian Academy. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.

South County better keep an eye on Cam Yingling. He was instrumental in Fairfax's win, going 11 for 20 on his way to 25 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Yingling has scored at least a third of Fairfax's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Mullen, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Fairfax was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Fairfax's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for South County, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

South County came up short against Fairfax in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 69-57. Thankfully for South County, Ronier Peters (who went 10 of 14 on his way to 29 points and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
