Football Game Preview: Cherokee Chiefs vs. Arkoma Mustangs + Official Tickets

The Cherokee Chiefs will be playing at home against the Arkoma Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cherokee is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.

Cherokee is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Waukomis: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Cherokee blew Waukomis out of the water with a 42-8 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Cherokee had established a 22-point advantage.

A big part of Cherokee's win came down to the chemistry between Trig Ream and his top target Dawson Schanbacher. Ream gained 206 total yards and two touchdowns while Schanbacher rushed for 115 yards and four scores.

Cherokee's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Antonio Banderas, Wiley Jones, and Joel Parker, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Arkoma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Copan and fell 62-18.

Cherokee will need to focus on slowing down Scout Smith, one of several Arkoma players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 199 receiving yards and one TD. Smith didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble, made five total tackles, and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Alex Armstrong was another key player, having thrown for 319 yards and three touchdowns.

Arkoma's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Cherokee, their record now sits at 8-2.
