Basketball Recap: Avon's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Avon entered their game against Hamilton Southeastern on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Avon Orioles lost to the Hamilton Southeastern Royals at home by a 61-45 margin. While losing is never fun, the Orioles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Royals are ranked first).

Several Orioles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mya Thompson, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Erika Larson, who put up six points and four blocks.

Hamilton Southeastern got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kennedy Holman out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Holman is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Kayla Stidham was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Avon's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Hamilton Southeastern, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-0.

Avon will venture away from home to square off against Westfield at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hamilton Southeastern, they will welcome Fishers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
