Summers County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 16-8 to the Mount View Golden Knights, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-8 on Wednesday.
Samantha Cales made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Haley Ratliff was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
As for Mount View, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Mount View, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Mount View's side, Phoebe Dudgeon was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. Dudgeon has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Kayleigh Rose was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 14 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Malayah Barnes, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summers County will square off against Midland Trail at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Bobcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mount View, they will venture away from home to face off against Greater Beckley Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Golden Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
