Basketball Recap: Dee Simon Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Potts Camp

Houlka lost to Potts Camp back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Houlka Wildcats were the clear victor by a 71-48 margin over the Potts Camp Cardinals. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Cardinals are ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Houlka got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dee Simon out in front who posted eight points along with ten assists and six steals. Simon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Elijah Foster was another key player, going 7 for 11 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Houlka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Houlka's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Potts Camp, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Houlka will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Vardaman at 7:30 p.m. As for Potts Camp, they will head out to take on Ingomar at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
