Softball Recap: Shelton Takes a Loss

Cheshire hit Shelton with a four-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Gaels lost 6-0 to the Rams. The Gaels haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Sammi Denihan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Shelton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8-1. As for Cheshire, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1.

Looking ahead, Shelton will welcome Hand at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gaels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Cheshire, they have already played their next matchup, a 10-0 victory against Oxford on the 30th.
