Canon City extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-14. They lost 20-8 to the Mesa Ridge Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-14 on Tuesday.
Addison Arnold was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalie Henry, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
As for Mesa Ridge, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-7-1. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Mesa Ridge's side, DonnaPaola Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Martinez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Mesa Ridge got a massive performance out of Nahlia(Taco) Zunk, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Zunk a new career-high. Serenity Higgins was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.
Coming up, Canon City will host Woodland Park at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.89 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mesa Ridge, they are taking a road trip to face off against Vista Ridge at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
