Basketball Recap: Washington Catholic Comes Up Short

Washington Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 33-30 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lighthouse Christian Academy Lions. The Cardinals were probably out for revenge after losing 51-39 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lighthouse Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Ellie Mae Winders, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Winders has scored at least a third of Lighthouse Christian Academy's points. Audrey Eason also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Washington Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Lighthouse Christian Academy, with the win, they broke their 21-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-19.

Washington Catholic will take on Vincennes Rivet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lighthouse Christian Academy has already played their next match (against Christian Academy of Madison), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
