Softball Recap: Delaware Christian Takes a Loss

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Monday. Delaware Christian fell just short of Madison Christian by a score of 8-7. Delaware Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Madison Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Ava Hovda was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Cosette Stump made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Ashlyn McCoy was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Delaware Christian's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Madison Christian, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Delaware Christian will take on Shekinah Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Madison Christian, they will face off against Tree of Life Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
