Football Recap: Moorpark's Undefeated Season over After Seven Games

If Moorpark was riding high fresh off their 52-27 takedown of Oak Park last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Musketeers fell 34-23 to the Ventura Cougars on Friday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Musketeers, who until this contest were averaging 14.43 points allowed.

Moorpark didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Adam Rodriguez and Davis Benson. Rodriguez has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last eight times he's played.

Jack Cunningham produced another solid effort picking up 190 receiving yards and three TDs for Ventura. Cunningham really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 75 yards. Derek Garcia was another key player, throwing for 224 yards and three touchdowns.

Having lost for the first time this season, Moorpark fell to 6-1. As for Ventura, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.

Moorpark didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 44-10 victory against Oxnard on the 17th. As for Ventura, they have also already played their next matchup, a 44-9 win against Royal on the 17th.
