Football Game Preview: Centennial Bulldogs vs. Coronado Cougars

The Centennial Bulldogs will head out to take on the Coronado Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Centennial is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Southeast Career Tech, who was ranked fifth at the time (Centennial was ranked 20th). 2025 welcomed Centennial with a 27-6 loss courtesy of Southeast Career Tech on Friday. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Even if they lost, Centennial's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. McKena Beverly was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two herself. She has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last seven times she's played. Kairi Tabunar was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 15 total tackles.

Meanwhile, Coronado got themselves on the board against Faith Lutheran on Friday, but Faith Lutheran never followed suit. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 47-0 blowout they got against the Crusaders. Considering the Cougars have won five contests by more than 33 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Coronado and bumps their season record up to 6-4. As for Centennial, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Centennial suffered a grim 24-0 defeat to Coronado in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Thankfully for Centennial, Maci Joncich (who threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns while completing 82.8% of her passes, and also rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
