Basketball Game Preview: Pine Ridge Thorpes vs. Parkston Trojans

The Pine Ridge Thorpes and the Parkston Trojans will round out the year against one another at at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pine Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69 points per game this season.

Pine Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Rapid City Christian, who was ranked first at the time (Pine Ridge was ranked sixth). Pine Ridge received a blow on Saturday as they fell 79-62 to Rapid City Christian. The Thorpes' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Pine Ridge got top-tier performance from Marvin Richard Lll, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Richard Lll's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Steele, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Parkston put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Chamberlain to the tune of 57-26.

Pine Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Parkston, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Everything went Pine Ridge's way against Parkston in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, as Pine Ridge made off with a 78-58 win. Will Pine Ridge repeat their success, or does Parkston have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
