Softball Game Preview: Western Wayne Wildcats vs. Athens Wildcats

Western Wayne will take on Athens at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Western Wayne is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

On Friday, Western Wayne didn't have quite enough to beat Riverside and fell 6-5.

Meanwhile, Athens narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Troy 3-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Gretchan Hiley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Athens saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Ahern, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Those two hits gave Ahern a new career-high.

Western Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6-1. As for Athens, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
