Basketball Recap: Rapides Starts Season with Victory at Home

Rapides gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 60-52 victory over the St. Joseph's - Plaucheville Eagles. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Zayveian Johnson had an outrageously good game as he dropped a double-double with 29 points and ten boards. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points. Another player making a difference was Tre'Mond Dorsey, who posted six points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.

Rapides smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

St. Joseph's - Plaucheville has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.

Rapides will welcome Glenmora at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Joseph's - Plaucheville, they will head out on the road to challenge Holy Savior Menard at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
