Football Game Preview: Unioto Shermans vs. East Tigers

Unioto is on a four-game streak of home wins, while East is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Shermans will host the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Unioto is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Westfall: they outscored them in every quarter. The Shermans were the clear victors by a 35-13 margin over the Mustangs last Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Shermans' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Mustangs are ranked 357th).

Isaac Coy was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 189 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 32 yards. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. David Long was another key player, gaining 80 total yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and East had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on Canton South with a sharp 43-21 win on Friday.

East's win came from a few key players Unioto will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dominique Edwards, who rushed for 81 yards and one TD on only seven carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another signal caller making a difference was Dior Hansard, who threw for 113 yards and one touchdown while completing 88.9% of his passes.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to East's defense and their three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Marqwez Mattox. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last seven games he's played. East received some extra help from Keith Phillups, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Unioto's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for East, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
