Basketball Game Preview: Waukesha South Blackshirts vs. Verona Wildcats

The Waukesha South Blackshirts are taking a road trip to take on the Verona Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Waukesha South has given up an average of 65.2 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

Last Thursday, Waukesha South lost to Kettle Moraine on the road by a 65-51 margin. While losing is never fun, the Blackshirts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Lasers are ranked fourth).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Verona faced off against Janesville Craig on Thursday. Verona walked away with a 69-59 win over Janesville Craig.

Verona is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.0 points over those games. Waukesha South has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season.

Waukesha South took their victory against Verona in their previous meeting back in January of 2022 by a conclusive 78-58. Does Waukesha South have another victory up their sleeve, or will Verona turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
