Preview: Stevens Falcons vs. Brennan Bears
The Stevens Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Brennan Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Stevens beat the Raiders 41-34. The win was just what Stevens needed coming off of a 68-42 loss in their prior matchup.
Stevens' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Giana Monda, who scored 11 points, and Andra Stokes, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Brennan came tearing into Tuesday's match with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 45-28 win over Warren. Given Brennan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Warriors are ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brennan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Ross, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Ross has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tiara Louis, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Stevens' win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-18. As for Brennan, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-3.
Stevens was taken down by the Bears 78-32 in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brennan's Bella Flemings, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 7 assists. Now that Stevens knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
