Preview: Walsh Jesuit Warriors vs. Lake Catholic Cougars
The Walsh Jesuit Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Lake Catholic Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Walsh Jesuit's game on Tuesday was all tied up 25-25 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Archbishop Hoban. While losing is never fun, Walsh Jesuit can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Archbishop Hoban is ranked 85th).
Meanwhile, Lake Catholic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Trinity 70-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Aiden Webb, who scored 19 points along with two steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Ace Peterlin was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Walsh Jesuit has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Lake Catholic, they dropped their record down to 5-8 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Walsh Jesuit was able to grind out a solid victory over Lake Catholic when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 58-45. Will Walsh Jesuit repeat their success, or does Lake Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
