Baseball Recap: Manchester Finds Playoff Glory Versus Rochester

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Manchester walked away with it. They won by a run and slipped past the Rochester Zebras 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Squires have posted against the Zebras since May 26, 2018.

Harper Sturtsman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Manchester is 5-1 when Sturtsman allows one or fewer earned runs, but 8-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dallas Martin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Reiss Gaerte was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Manchester is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Rochester, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-8.

Looking ahead, Manchester will take on Eastern at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Comets will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Squires surely won't give up without a fight. Rochester does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
