Softball Recap: Callaway Finds Playoff Glory Versus Columbus

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Callaway walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Columbus Blue Devils 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Cavaliers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Lilah Monteith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Monteith was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Savannah Rice, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September. Jackie Pitts was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Callaway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Callaway's record now sits at 13-18. As for Columbus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-17.

Callaway wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 15-0 defeat against Morgan County on the 30th. Columbus does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
