Football Preview: La Sierra Eagles vs. Hillcrest Trojans
La Sierra is 2-8 against Hillcrest since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The La Sierra Eagles will head out to square off against the Hillcrest Trojans at 7:00 p.m. La Sierra will be strutting in after a victory while Hillcrest will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with seven losses in a row dating back to last season, La Sierra finally turned things around against Saddleback on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 34-12 margin over the Roadrunners. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their six-point performance the matchup before.
La Sierra can attribute much of their success to Shawn Childs, who rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and Eddie Roy, who threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. A healthy portion of that aerial production (112 yards to be exact) went to Memphis Agosto, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, La Sierra was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 480 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 31-26 to Ramona. The loss was the Trojans' first of the season.
Despite the defeat, Hillcrest got top-tier performance from Alfredo Vences, who rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns. Matthew Ramos was another key player, throwing for 169 yards and a touchdown.
Hillcrest wouldn't let Ramona keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Noah Mayweather was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
La Sierra's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-2. As for Hillcrest, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
