Basketball Game Preview: Jay County Patriots vs. Richmond Red Devils

Jay County is 2-7 against Richmond since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Patriots will look to defend their home court against the Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

After dropping their season opener at home, Richmond is headed out to face a Patriots squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Jay County fell 64-57 to Fort Wayne South Side on Tuesday.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gradin Swoveland, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 15 points and seven boards. He is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Forthofer, who made all 5 shots he took for 11 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Richmond was able to grind out a solid victory over Hagerstown on Wednesday, taking the game 56-45.

Richmond's win came from a few key players Jay County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Thomas Stargell, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points along with six boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Eli Hubbard, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.
